Cana Island
Nine acres, a stone causeway and the county's most photographed lighthouse.
Door County, Wisconsin
The quiet side, with more public land than village.
The quiet side of the peninsula: a small village on Lake Michigan, surrounded by thousands of acres of protected land and a cluster of historic lights.
Baileys Harbor has always been considered the quiet side. The village sits on the eastern shore of the peninsula, with Lake Michigan in front and more than 6,000 acres of public land around it. Sandy beaches give way to rocky shoals; the water is cold and clear.
That makes it a different kind of Door County trip. There is less to shop and more to walk, and the village's historic lighthouses are reached on foot or by boat rather than from a car park.
Nine acres, a stone causeway and the county's most photographed lighthouse.
A protected shoreline landscape adjoining a 30-acre county park with 400 feet of sand beach.
Two aligned lights that guided boats into the harbour for a century.
